22 Apr Beauty Secrets – DIY Teeth Whitening
Lights, Camera, Sparkle! Here’s the secret of how I whiten my teeth with my own kitchen supply. Turmeric, or haldi, is seriously a beauty miracle. From using turmeric in homemade face packs, using it on cuts and scrapes, to drinking it in hot milk when you have a cold, this stuff really is an essential ingredient to have in your kitchen. In an earlier blog post, I even shared with you all my favourite face mask recipe that included turmeric and I’m excited to share another beauty secret that involves turmeric today!
Since turmeric stains anything it touches yellow, it’s hard to believe that turmeric can be used to whiten your teeth, too. I had a hard time believing this until I tried it myself. Of course you can’t only use plain turmeric because that would indeed be a disaster, but if you use the right formula and mix it with a proper base oil, voila! Your teeth will be instantly whiter.
For me, this little beauty secret has really come in handy because I very sensitive teeth and whenever I tried getting my teeth whitened at a dentist before a shoot it hurt like crazy. And I doubt it’s very good for your smile to do this very often, either. These dental practices of whitening scrape off the enamel and protection from your teeth and the harsh bleaching agents and chemicals are toxic to your health! Also, why go to a dentist when you have every ingredient for whiter teeth in your kitchen? Make sure your ingredients are natural and organic to achieve the healthiest results.
Here’s what you will need:
½ spoon turmeric
½ spoon baking powder (not baking soda!)
½ spoon coconut oil
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl. You can add more or less of any of these ingredients until you get a nice, thick paste. You can add a drop of organic mint oil to change the flavour if you’re not a fan of coconut. Put the paste on a toothbrush and simply brush your teeth as normally for 2 minutes minimum. Rinse your mouth out with water and see your bright smile sparkle instantly!
