04 Aug How To Survive In The Indian Jungle – My Top 5 Travel Essentials – Evelyn’s Secrets

For the next few days, I’m going to be stuck in the middle of the jungle with nothing else but my phone to rely on to help me survive. Reminds you on the trekking trip in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani? It’s going to be just like that! Only this time is will be real. I’m going to be featured on the most hilarious travel show show called “Stupid Man, Smart Phone” that essentially involves me being stranded in not-so-ideal terrain with the show’s host, and Permanent Roommates star, Sumeet Vyas. We will be spending four adventure-packed days in the wilderness of Tamil Nadu where we will have to build our own shelter, find our own food, and finish the task that is assigned to us within the four days. Crazy, right?! Don’t worry, I won’t be completely lost – because I have YOU.

I am super excited for this; not only because this is going to be super fun and crazy but also because I absolutely LOVE the jungle. You guys already know how much I enjoy being in touch with nature and find it super relaxing to dive into the green. From Lonavala to Sikkim, from Vietnam to the Philippines – it doesn’t matter where. Nature is my favourite place to be! Here is a small video of my recent trip to Sikkim to get you in the mood:

On that note, I am going to share my top 5 jungle essentials for you all for the next time you decide to delve face first into nature like I am about to! Click on the picture if you need one, too:

1. My own bodyguard! And with that I mean mosquito repellant!

It’s no surprise that the jungle is FILLED with creatures wanting to suck your blood any chance they get. In an earlier post, I shared a natural DIY mosquito repellent you can make at home. Honestly, I love natural products but this may not do the trick in the forest. My favourite are mosquito repellant stick on patches! Making sure you wear long sleeves and full pants and stick on that bodyguard for an extra layer of protection.

2. Sunscreen is probably a good idea too.

Do I even need to mention this? Protect your skin – you’re going to be outside A LOT! Unless you want to look like a tandoori mushroom by the end of your trip, do yourself a favour and pick up the highest SPF sunscreen you can find – I always go for 50+. Grab a cute hat too if you really want to protect yourself. Black goes well with anything!

3. Flashlights to navigate the darkness.

As much as I love them, jungles can be scary. Oh yes, and there’s no electricity 24-7 so if you’re looking for a luxurious experience, the jungle probably isn’t for you. Make sure you take a flashlight so you can see the lions, tigers, and bears – OH MY! Just kidding, the flashlight is mainly for snakes if you’re into that sort of thing. I of course, will only have my smart phone. Thank God there’s a torch in it!

4. Wet wipes for your cheeks!

Jungles don’t have beautiful bathrooms so chances are, you’ll be trekking through nature and nature will call. Wet wipes are great for face, hands and any sort of cheeks that require wiping! Don’t forget to bring a hand sanitizer as well!

5. Bring your adventurous spirit!

Nobody likes a whining crybaby while you’re traversing through the jungle. If you ever feel overwhelmed, tired, or just plain fearful – take a second, gather yourself, and remember that you only get the chance to experience REAL nature a few times in your life. Enjoy it and embrace the challenge. You’ll be glad you did!

Tell me what else I should be taking into the jungle in the COMMENTS!

As a regular trekker to the himalayas,i would suggest you to have water proof shoes as that is a basic thing in the jungle..
Plus make sure you should not challenge the jungle but learn to live by its rules.
    All the best..moogli girl…😋😋

Hello There… As far as I know about the south terrain, there won’t be any terrible carnivores in the Jungles of Tamil Nadu.

If possible, find a high ground, with fewer trees nearby. Check that area, if it’s properly moonlit, then there’s no worry; you can properly survey the area without any problems.

Keep some Firewood, or a blazing “torch Gun” handy to ward off any pests or wild animals. You could run short of water, so store some water, well in advance.

Don’t litter too much, as it may attract unwanted guests. If possible, build a fence in the area, and keep the perimeter secure. Thats all for now.

I always have these in my survival kit:
    Cord(preferably braided ones)
    Antiseptic cream
    Water bottle
    Powerbank( if using GPS)
Compass and maps( preferably with elevations shown)
Change of undergarments ( NEVER have wet undergarments on for more than 2 hrs)
    Good trekking boots

You should carry a knife or a dagger too along with yourself for self-protection. Also a 5 yard rope if possible which can be needed at any point of time , for example to tie up something. I am in a scout so have these basic ideas though 😊

You should also carry Bite Relief Click to get rid of the itching from insect bites. First aid kit(with sterile needles and blister pads) , binoculars(optional) . That’s all from my side. Wish you good luck for the adventurous trip. Stay safe and alert. 😀

While camping the most challenging thing to my knowledge is keeping those pesky bugs at bay. Its not only the mosquitos (for which i think you are sufficiently equipped) that will give you a sleepless night.

    My recommendations;

    1. Avoid strong scented products (soaps/deos/perfumes) and use mildly scented or non scented products. Insects are attracted to this.

    2. If you buiding a camp fire drop some sage leaves or neem leaves in the fire. The smoke from this should keep them away. Temporarily for the night.

    3. Avoid shorts and sleeveless at night, PJs and comfy shirts will give you protection and that much needed sleep.

    Hope that helps :))

Tower Diving- pay attention to the mini map, if your lanes have been trading blows a lot and someone on the opposingteam is low health (like 40% or lower) you may have a chance to tower dive. I do not recommend tower diving at low levels, or tower diving champions such as Kayle, Poppy, or Vladimir who can use abilities and become invincible for a time period. But remember a kill+an assist is still worth more than a kill.
