Guys, have I mentioned how much I adore the monsoon season in Mumbai? I just got back to India from my trip to the USA and it seems like the rains are finally in full force around here! I am so excited that things have cooled off a little bit. I’m also really looking forward to lots of time spent at home being curled up on a couch with some chai, pakoras and a good book!
We all know, with a new season comes new beauty rituals and items we need to add to our wardrobes, and I want to share with you some of the essentials for monsoon season that help me feeling and looking vibrant as ever. Don’t forget to check out my last post on how to make your own mosquito repellant as well!
Here are my top three secret must-haves during the rainy season:
1. Waterproof mascara and coconut oil!
Raccoon eyes be gone! During monsoon season even a little moisture on those lashes can make your mascara run, so make sure you always use waterproof! Don’t reach your meeting looking you just stepped out of a horror movie!
Which brings me to my other monsoon beauty essential: Coconut oil! We all know that hair can start looking a little crazy during the rains. My tresses usually get really dry and dull so I get a little bottle of coconut oil that fits into my purse so I can control my frizzy hair at any time. Only use it in your tips though, and I recommend get a scented one – my favourite is jasmine coconut oil! You don’t want to smell like your mama just oiled your hair…
2. A bright red umbrella!
Just like in my film Ishqedarriyaan! I can’t wait for the real life moment when the love of my life comes running with a red umbrella to save me from the rain! Uff… Monsoons are so romantic!
And what’s better than a little online shopping when hiding from the rain? Most websites sell lovely umbrellas in lots of fun prints and bright colours. They even have the compact variety that will fit in your bag – maybe for you to fall in love this season?
3. Happy jelly sandals or fun gumboots!
Who doesn’t like to jump around in puddles! Gumboots are perfect for the heavy rains outside and best for when the streets get flooded in months like July and August!
Otherwise I wear colourful sandals because they’re just easier to slip on and such cute shoes just make happy! You can find lots of these kinds of shoes at the markets on Linking Road in Bandra or any high end store at your nearest shopping mall! And for the other seasons… there are always ways to up-cycle!
