05 Jun World Environment Day – Evelyn’s Secrets
Today is World Environment Day and you guys know how important our dear Mother Earth is to me. I think we all should do our small part to help save our planet. If everyone was just a little bit more mindful of what they use and how they conserve resources, we could all make such a great impact! In the spirit of World Environment Day, I want to share with you three of my secrets to an environmentally friendly living:
1. Eat locally grown, organic vegetables!
This is not only better for your own health, but it’s better for the planet’s health also! The less chemicals floating around the air means the better for the environment. I love to visit the organic farmer’s market in Bandra that happens every Sunday. It’s a great way to support our local farmers, too and secure their jobs in a world of mass consumerism. And guys, organically grown vegetables save so much water!
2. Separate your waste and recycle!
Recycling is something that we all do on our own, even if it’s difficult to find a service to come and collect it from your home. In my house we usually keep all separate bins for plastics, aluminum, and paper and call a raddi service every week to collect it and distribute it to the different recycle centres! This is a great way to make sure your waste can go to use again.
3. Wear sustainable, ethical and vintage fashion!
Many of you already know that our chariy foundation Seams For Dreams promotes sustainable and ethical fashion. Check out the AWARENESS Blog some time to find all the coolest and upcoming brands on there! As a NGO, our mission is to provide appropriate clothing to people in need, so keep cleaning out your closets and donate your own clothes on www.SeamsForDreams.com! As an individual, I have made it a choice to mainly purchase clothing that is from ethical brands and clothing that I know I will wear for a long time. Did you know that fashion is the second largest pollutant in the world after oil? I believe it is so important to know where your clothes are coming from. Know the label on the inside, rather than the one on the outside.
