“Why are you looking for the living among the dead?” – Evelyn’s Secrets
In light of Easter I wanted to share a small personal story with you all about what I experienced in the last few days. I know many of us have different beliefs and follow different faiths, but I think it’s beautiful that holidays such as Easter besides bringing us together to find colourful eggs and play with bunnies, they also inspire us with universal life lessons and here is one I learned this weekend.
Easter Sunday is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus after his crucifixion on Good Friday and talks about God’s victory over evil and about us finding hope in a new beginning! I could find a thousand thoughts to connect to this awesome story of God’s love for us, but today I want to share something rather personal with you.
Coincidence or not, this Friday I experienced a little death of my own. Our hearts can be broken in many ways… Sometimes it’s letting go of a person, sometimes it’s giving up a dream job, and sometimes it’s as simple as sacrificing your own ego to avoid a fight. It all makes us feel weak, hopeless and dead. I was sad all weekend because I had to let go of a dream I held on to for way too long and was causing me more harm than good. Often what we want and imagine to make us so happy isn’t the right thing for us at all. We know it deep down, but we cling on to it like a three year old clings on to their big old teddy bear thinking it’s the best they could ever have. We don’t understand, that if we let go, bigger and better things are waiting for us!
On Easter Sunday these words really spoke to me: “Why are you looking for the living among the dead?” This is what the angel said when the women came to look for Jesus body in his grave. But surprisingly the stone was rolled away, the grave was empty, only the clothes were left behind. Jesus was risen! His victory over death is what gives us hope of better things to come! Of new life! Of a future where God himself writes every line of your story!
So I really want to encourage you all today! When things seem worst, and situations seem hopeless, when dreams are shattered and all hope is lost – don’t give up! Don’t look in dead places for new life. Your hope is in God who writes your story! “Take heart! I have overcome the world!” Said Jesus to his friends. So keep moving, always look forward. Let go of those dead things that are holding you back. Greater things than you can imagine are waiting ahead!
