Most of you know I am a hopeless romantic! Films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani aren’t just my favourite genre to act in, but they truly warm my heart and I could watch them over and over again! Don’t we all love LOVE? What does love mean to you? Is it a feeling, an emotion or a decision? It is confusing for sure… And between you and me – I do get carried away by it quite often! Most of all when it’s about my friends and family! Oh how I loveeee them!
I’m a believer that love truly does make the world go round. So many of our daily decisions are based on love, whether it’s cooking a meal for someone you care about, listening to your friend’s issues over and over again or even extending a helping hand to someone in need. Love really is a major part of our lives and with everything that’s going on in our world today, we all could use some more of it.
Love has always been something that people have found difficult to define and has often been confused with “being in love”… Even though I love to watch rom-coms and read beautiful poems, I somethings wonder if romanticism has ruined to true meaning of love. Even the English language has quite generalised the word and there is no comparison anymore to the four deeply inspiring words in the Greek language: Storage, philia, eros and agape. One of my favourite books about this topic is “The Four Loves” by C.S. Lewis.
To me, love is a selfless act that puts others in front of your own needs, wants, and desires. An act of sacrifice I dare say. I once read “there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”. This thought moved me and defined my view on love a lot. When you love selflessly, you just can’t stay mad at people, you want to forgive. If you truly love, pride and jealousy have no place in your heart. If you truly love, you will discover that even you are so worthy of love. A selfless kind of love will always stem from a source of being loved… Which is eye-opening and I really pray that you would discover this kind of love in your life, too.
I’ll tell you a little secret… I never loved myself and often tried to love on other people so they would love me back. Which is very exhausting and depressing. I didn’t really know who I even was, especially when I entered the Bollywood industry. There are so many people, the media, even your friends telling you who you should be or who they think you are and what you should do so people would love you more. I feel nowadays you don’t even have to be an actor to face this problem, pretty much everyone with a Facebook account will face the public love and hate and would be in danger to lose themselves… It took me a while to figure out that my identity is not about what people think of me, but who God made me. We are all so beautifully created with different kinds of colours and talents and dimples and curves! Don’t ever wait for the world to start loving you, don’t try to work hard by loving others either… Start with loving yourself and your love for others will be an overflow of the blessing God will pour out on you!
Oops… Now where did all this come from? 🙂 Sometimes I get very inspired writing to all of you I must say! Let me know your thoughts in the COMMENTS! Keep loving, keep giving, keep receiving!
