A rendezvous with my roots and more jaggery beauty secrets!
This week I was in Punjab shooting for my upcoming film and I always get extremely excited to be reacquainted with my roots. You all know, my father’s side of the family is from Punjab, so every time I’m here I get really nostalgic and love experiencing all things Punjabi! The last time I was there was during my trip to Amritsar during the promotions for my film Ishqedarriyaan with Mahaakshay Chakraborty and team, and I still remember the visit to the Golden Temple was absolutely surreal and breathtaking. Here are some fun throwback pictures I found! Can’t believe it’s been two years already… such wonderful memories! Hope you all loved the film… Sharing the trailer again for those of you who are yet to watch it!
This time I was shooting in the outskirts of Jalandhar, and had some free time to explore since it was raining and we had to stop shooting because of the mucky weather. Don’t tell anyone, but I secretly these things happen and we get free time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings for a bit before it’s go, go, go again. Those make some of the best memories on these kind of far away shooting schedules! Though, luckily we finished to wrap up the shoot well in time despite the thunderstorms!
Some of my personal favourite things to do in Punjab are to eat and shop! So we went into the main city centre to go shopping in the local markets!
Even tho was loud and polluted and I almost got run over by every scooter passing by, it was colourful and wonderful in equal measures… I bought a lot of cool fabrics for me and my friends in Mumbai who love the typical Punjabi phulkari work!
The best part of the Punjab up is obviously the food so we ended the day in a big dinner feast. Punjabi food is rich in flavour and ghee, and I eat so much butter chicken and parathas every time I am here.
Here in Punjab, like many other places in North India, we always end our meals with jaggery, or gur, and this leads me to one of my special beauty secrets for you. Anytime I’m in need for a sweet fix, I always look to jaggery because it has so many amazing benefits. Because jaggery is an unrefined sugar, it’s not only pure, but it helps boost immunity, detoxifies your liver and intestines, and is a good source of energy. I even use jaggery in my tea as a sweetener! When you can, use healthy alternatives in your everyday dishes and juices and you’ll feel healthier and happier!
Now I know all of you want to ask me a thousand things about SRK… but those will have to stay my secrets for a little while longer 😉
What’s your favourite thing about Punjab? I can’t wait to hear all about it in the COMMENTS!
